How safe are you online? The Government obviously doesn't think so, otherwise they would not have launched their ITsafe website yesterday (read our article here).
Do we honestly think that their target audience, home users and micro businesses, are going to pay any attention? Or are they more likely to continue in blind ignorance with zombie machines spewing spam over the wires?
Personally, I think the latter is the likely scenario as even a large proportion of those in the IT industry are not up to speed themselves, kind of like 'the blind leading the blind'. Call me cynical if you like, however I've been aware of or had to deal with too many 'incidents' over the years to have a more positive view. For example I never store my key data on a Windows(tm) machine, the risks are just too high, preferring a mixed network setup using Linux as file storage for the most part.
Even Mr G4tes & co are now talking about their next version of the ever dominant IE* having anti-spyware code (and other code to deal with malicious threats), I give it a week before someone's posted a way round it!
